What’s in the Name

I’m Trisha and the person behind most of the content you’ll see here. God blessed my husband, Dan, and myself with four energetic children. We initially began growing our family in the middle of a town setting on a small lot. We are so thankful for those early days and have some of the sweetest memories from our meager beginnings. But let me tell ya, our kids were NOT meant for town life, even small town living.I have so many funny stories of people awkwardly gawking at the shenanigans my children were up to on our little town lot. In 2019 we purchased land from my Grandfather and moved next door to him and Gram. We built our humble abode in four months and have been loving country living ever since. My children had a special relationship with my Gramps, their Great Grandpa “Berger” as they called him. Gramps unexpectedly passed away in spring 2021 leaving a pretty big empty spot in our lives. Before he left us the kids loved going on four wheeler rides with him to the creek at the back corner of our field. Gramps loved telling the kids stories often scaring them and sending them squealing for home. One favorite story was of Old Man Paddler, taken from the book “The Sugar Creek Gang”. Gramps told the kids Old Man Paddler lived in his basement and the stories just grew from there. Gramps liked to tease us and one time I threatened to call him to come be with the kids when they were up in the night scared of Old Man Paddler. When Gramps passed we began wondering if the creek, the kids’ favorite place to visit with Grandpa, had a name. From what we understand it has never been named! So we are going to dub it “Paddler’s Creek” in memory of Grandpa. We still regularly make the trek to the creek on our property and roam around reminiscing of all the sweet memories made with Grandpa.
